The New Testament teaches that the local church is to be pastored and taught by a plurality of men who have met the qualifications set forth in the Bible. These men are known as elders or overseers and their primary role is that of preaching and praying. Also serving with the elders are deacons, who must also meet certain qualifications as set forth in the Bible. Their responsibility is to perform the remaining services of the church, this might include such duties as administrative financial and organizational tasks.
